ABOUT US

We believe in the power of storytelling to show us who we are, to illuminate, to persuade, to connect and maybe to change the world.

So we help the storytellers to tell their stories with post production, VFX, audio and creative partnerships that bring their stories to life.

And how we do that is by having world-class talent and facilities, by setting a standard for excellence, by innovating, by fostering talent and creativity, by being a creative partner and by being with you every step of the way.

Our History

We have a long and storied past. It’s something we’re proud of, something that’s bigger than any one of us. The work we’ve helped make possible has entertained millions.

We’ve had success and failure, lessons learned in equal measure. Through constant change we’ve remained constantly creative, constantly responsive and constantly there, working with some of the most interesting filmmakers, musicians, artists & creatives in the world.

We’ve been part of many great stories and we look forward to being part of many more….

1978

James Morris, Russ Russell, Brian Masterson and Miert Avis establish Windmill Lane, Irelands first world class recording studio and TV commercial post production facilities. Back then, Ireland was someplace that people with ambition left and everyone thought they were crazy, but from a long established culture of story telling, creativity & determination and a little bit of luck comes opportunity….

1980s

With state of the art post production for TV commercials now in Dublin, Windmill went from strength to strength both creatively and technologically.

1980s

The early 80s saw the launch of MTV & Windmill was in the right place at the right time. Ask your parents!

1980s

Do you remember the one with the lad coming home to see his Mammy, or lines like “Ah that’s Bass”, “You could put a bit of butter on the spuds Andre” or “Sally O’Brien and the way she might look at you”?

Classics. With a touch of Windmill.

Having opened offices in LA and London the next step was to open another post house and The Mill is established as the worlds first fully digital commercial post production facility.

The studio has grown steadily to become the largest of its kind in Ireland.

1999

The MTV circus rolled into town in the shape of the EMAs and Windmill created the visuals for the show, broadcast around the world.

Our Location

After over 30 years at the location that gave us our name, Windmill Lane “returned” to Herbert St in the heart of beautiful Georgian Dublin in 2009.

Our new HQ incorporated white mark audio studios, custom built colour suites and a hot desk style workflow throughout the building allowing clients and creatives to work anywhere or several places at once depending on their requirements.
