TG4, Puck

Over the years TG4 have become well known for their unique and surprising on-air idents, and Windmill Lanes involvement in the creation of the latest batch looks set to continue the tradition. Directed by Brian Williams, Richard Merrigan led the design and animation team in Windmill.

On his approach: “SuilEile” is the long term identity for TG4, and can be taken to mean “A different view “. With this in mind, the theme for the current set of Idents is one of myth and folklore – but of a different and unexpected kind!

TG4, Puck

This newest ident ‘Puck’ came from the famous Puck Fair festival that takes place in Co. Kerry every year. The Puck is traditionally a wild mountain goat, brought down from the mountains to star in the festival.

To evoke magic and wonder in the ident we created the fair on a giant goat itself. Working closely with Brian Williams, we sketched up and designed the goat in a steampunkstyle. The otherworldly creature’s horns double as a roller coaster, his torso carries a Ferris wheel, a Carousel and also a Slide. You may even glimpse a few of the Windmill team in the goat waving and cheering as it goes by.
