Windmill Lane International
About Windmill Lane International
Windmill Lane Pictures has a long established reputation for creative film and TV post production in Ireland. Using a combination of digital technology and Ireland’s Section 481 film and TV tax incentive we can now work seamlessly with clients from around the world. Our recent investments in new high resolution data based post production facilities, combined with high speed connectivity, make creative collaboration over distance and time zones both practical and most importantly cost effective. Cost effective because the Irish tax incentive will finance up to 28% of everything you spend in Ireland and if this includes CGI and Visual Effects this can be a meaningful financial contribution to your project.
Windmill was founded by James Morris in the early 80’s as a commercial post production house and music recording studios and became famous as the base for U2. In 1990 with the backing of U2, James set up The Mill in London which subsequently went on to become one of the most successful creative post production houses in the UK.
In the meantime Windmill continued to prosper as a post production facility aimed at the local domestic market and over the years Windmill has provided post production for features and TV drama by directors such as Neil Jordan, Jim Sheridan, John Boorman, Thaddeus O’Sullivan and many others. With the move to new premises in 2009 and the investment of over €5m in a new data production facility designed for high end film and TV post production together with excellent connectivity our ambition is now to attract international post production to Dublin.
The Irish film and TV incentive (Section 481) will contribute up to 28% of all qualifying expenditure that takes place in Ireland on your project and this investment is available in full on the first day of principle photography. Qualifying expenses are defined as all EU crew and cast working in Ireland and goods and services purchased in Ireland for the purposes of either production or post-production activity. To access this incentive as an overseas project you must in the first instance engage with an Irish Co-Production partner who will organise your project’s application to the Irish Revenue Authorities and, if approved, will raise the necessary funds in the Irish market. If you are considering bringing post production and or visual effects to Ireland then we can act as your Irish co-production partner and ensure that the benefit of the tax incentive is maximised for your project.
On the VFX side we have recently opened Ireland’s first dedicated stand alone Feature Film Visual Effects facility, Windmill LaneVFX, delivering an international standard multi seat VFX pipeline using a mix of Maya and Nuke software and latest 3D software developments together with custom designed software tools. With the capacity to increase when needed, Windmill LaneVFX’s first major project is the very exciting Luc Besson produced sci-fi adventure ‘Lockout’, directed and co-written by the talented Irish filmmaking duo Stephen St. Ledger and James Mather and starring Guy Pearce and Maggie Grace. Lockout was shot in Belgrade and all the CGI and VFX for the movie have been produced in Dublin by Windmill LaneVFX. Bringing together an internationally experienced and talented Creative team together with the best of local talent Windmill LaneVFX completed CGI and VFX for the project and is finalising delivery of Lockout this month.
